about

A year has passed. She is beckoned back to the convent after a year of secret love with Gaufridy. He makes the decision to end it because he is a man of his word, of his God and she must go back (Perhaps he has been wanting to end it for some time). They both made decisions to take the vows of God as their primary source of life. He feels she should also. He ends it based on their decisions to turn toward God. It seems good, but she feels rejected. It fuels her anger. She spits at him that he will be sorry for rejecting her, then leaves with a slam of the door.
Narrator sitting in a chair in the corner of the room. Gaufridy at his desk writing. There is a knock at the door, Gaufridy goes over to let Madeleine in while Narrator sings.
